Renato Roldão is a specialist in the areas of climate, energy and environmental policies with around 20 years’ experience. He has worked in Asia for the last 15 years. His experience includes participation in the Climate negotiating team in the context of the UNFCCC (1997 and 2010) and leading observer delegations to the COP21 and COP22 Conferences of the Parties, as well as coordinating observer delegations from COP23 to COP28. Additionally, Renato has experience in supporting the design and implementation of GHG emission permit systems in the European Union, China, Korea, and Ukraine.
Renato is Team Leader of the EU-China ETS Platform Project. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) representing Portugal, by appointment of the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing and in that capacity was elected to the Executive Committee of the same organization for a 1-year term (May 2023 – May 2024).
Renato obtained a Master’s Degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Aveiro with a thesis on the use of renewable energies in Northwest China. He completed the curricular part of the Master’s Degree in “Economics, Energy, and Environmental Policy” (ISEG) and later moved on to the PhD in “Sustainable Energy Systems” from the MIT Portugal Program.
Renato Roldão has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since December 2023.
