Pedro Pires de Miranda was CEO and Managing Director of Siemens Portugal (2016-2022). Previously was Corporate Vice President of Siemens AG at the Headquarters in Munich, since 2008.
He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Siemens Angola from 2016 to 2020.
Started his career at General Motors Corporation in 1981 as Production Engineer and specialized at GM’s automotive components plant in Dayton, Ohio, USA.
Joined Siemens in 1983 and held several management positions at Siemens S.A. in Portugal and Siemens AG in Germany. Appointed General Manager Engineering in 1998, and was responsible for several infrastructure projects in Portugal, as well as at international level, in Doha, Qatar, Dubai and the US. In 2007 became a member of the Executive Committee of Siemens SA.
In 2008, he was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Siemens AG, in Munich, Germany, responsible for worldwide business development in 70 cities (namely, in the urban transport infrastructures, building technology and energy areas) as well as for the worldwide coordination of all Market Development Boards, and for the management program of large corporate customer accounts.
In 2011, he was appointed to the Sales Board of Siemens AG, in Munich, and in 2012 became Executive Vice President of the Siemens global Center of Competence for Cities headquartered in London, and thereby responsible for the regional Competence Centers in Washington, DC, and Shanghai.
Graduated in Interdisciplinary Engineering, Electrical and Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA. He was an AFS Scholar in New York, attended Executive Management programs at Harvard Business School and the Universidade Nova in Lisbon, Portugal, Engineering Management at Krannert Business School, USA, and Industrial Engineering at the REFA Institute in Darmstadt, Germany.
He is a member of IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, of the General Council of ANIMEE, of the Strategic Committee of COTEC, of the General Council of PROFORUM, of the Advisory Boards of AICEP and of the BCSD Portugal.
In 2014, he was honored by the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Order of Merit and title of Grand Officer. He is also a founding member (since 2012) of the Portuguese Diaspora Council.
In 2020, at the Neil Armstrong Engineering Hall, Purdue University distinguished him with the Engineering Education Outstanding Alumni Award and named him Purdue University Ambassador for Portugal.
In 2021, he was elected member of the Board and Chairman of the Strategic Council of PROFORUM – Association for the Development of Portuguese Engineering, member of the Board of Directors and Vice-President of the Portuguese-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Vorstand of von Herigoyen e.V., in Munich. He is a founding member of the Business Roundtable Association Portugal.
