Since March 1, 2020, Pedro Machado has been a member of the Single Resolution Board (SRB) and Head of Resolution Planning and Decisions, with responsibility for resolution planning and decisions for the banking groups in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Ireland and for banking groups in third countries, namely the UK, USA, Canada, Switzerland and Japan.
Pedro Machado has been working in the areas of banking regulation and supervision for over 20 years. He started as a legal advisor at the ECB (2001-06) and at the Bank of Portugal (2006-11), during which time he was a member of the Legal Committee of the European System of Central Banks (LEGCO). He was Chief of Staff to the Minister of State and Finance (2011-13) and, when he returned to the Bank of Portugal, he was Deputy Director of the Prudential Supervision Department at the Bank of Portugal (2013-2014).
From 2012 to 2015, he was a non-resident member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank.
From 2015 until August 2017, he was co-head of risk and financial regulation at PwC Portugal (consulting area), having returned to the Bank of Portugal as Director of Legal Services in September 2017, a position he held until taking up his current role at the SRB.
Pedro Machado graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law in Lisbon and did postgraduate studies at the European University Institute (Florence). He was an assistant professor at the Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa between 1996 and 1998 and frequently lectures on university postgraduate courses and executive training courses.
Pedro Machado has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since November 2023.
