Jorge Barbosa is currently CFO at GPC Groupe. He previously held the position of Finance Director at Mota-Engil in Ivory Coast. Since 2012, he has worked in Africa, living in Cape Verde, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Ghana, mainly during the structuring and start-up phase of projects.

Between 2001 and 2004, he worked in the finance department of the construction company Monte & Monte. From 2004 to 2007, he worked at Metro do Porto, and from 2007 to 2012 he was Head of Corporate Finance at MonteAdriano.

In 2012, he moved to Cape Verde as Chief Financial Officer of the Elevo construction company in West Africa. He coordinated and supervised the start-up of the business in Mauritania, and in 2015 he moved to Senegal, where he began operations, establishing himself as Elevo’s Representative in the country.

In 2017, he took part in setting up operations and launching Elevo’s business in Cameroon. That same year, he joined Mota-Engil, based in Côte d’Ivoire as Regional Finance Manager. He coordinated administrative, financial and human resources matters in Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon, most notably the establishment and operationalization of waste concessions to serve the capital, with 6 million inhabitants. In the area of construction, he built stadiums and complementary facilities in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, which hosted the African Nations Championship.

In 2019, it moved to Kenya, participating in the establishment and start-up of a Public-Private Partnership for the construction and maintenance of roads, and supported the Tanzanian operation. In 2021, he moved to Ghana for the structuring and start-up phase in the country, also helping to launch a mining operation in Mali.

He returned to Côte d’Ivoire in 2023, with a particular focus on launching two mining operations.

He has a degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of Porto since 2001 and a Master’s degree in Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems since 2006, from the same institution.

Jorge Barbosa has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since April 2024.
