João Verne Oliveira is an experienced lawyer with a deep knowledge of energy law. With a law degree from the University of Lisbon Law School, João completed an LL.M in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law from the University of Houston, and an Executive Masters in Global Business from the University of Oxford.
Throughout his career, João has accumulated vast experience in various areas of energy law. He began his career as a lawyer at Miranda Law Firm. He is currently Senior Counsel at BP in London, UK, having previously worked for BP in Angola.
João is a renowned author and speaker on energy issues, having published several articles on the subject and co-authored a number of books on energy law.
In addition to his professional activity as a Senior Legal Consultant at BP, João is the Coordinator of the Post-Graduation in Energy Law at the Portuguese Catholic University and a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law of the Agostinho Neto University.
In addition to his legal expertise, João is an active member of the international legal community. He is a founding member of EnerXXI – Energy Think Tank and a member of several international organizations, such as the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF).
João Verne Oliveira has been a member of the Diaspora Council since April 2024.
