João Almeida is currently a Senior Advisor at Hakluyt, specialized in European affairs and political and geopolitical risk.

Previously, between 2006 and 2012, João Almeida served as Political Advisor to the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso. From 1999 to 2006, João Almeida served as Senior Advisor and later as Executive Director of the Instituto de Defesa Nacional in Portugal.

João Almeida holds an MA in International Affairs and Relations from the University of Kent and a PhD in Philosophy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

João Almeida has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since July 2023.
