Fernando Miguel Matias was born in Nampula, Mozambique, and earned a degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon in 1992. Joined Accenture, where he was integrated into the Utilities team. Supported the launch of Deloitte Consulting in Portugal as a Senior Manager in the Energy sector, responsible for the Iberian region, leading several strategy and M&A projects, including the merger between Petrogal and Gás de Portugal, which created Galp Energia.
In 2000, was recruited by Galp Energia as Director of Innovation, reporting to the CEO, and represented Galp as an Executive Director in various innovative companies (e.g., Galp eNova, Fastaccess, Forumb2b.com, etc.). Completed a postgraduate program in Leadership at INSEAD and an MBA at AESE/IESE.
In 2006, founded his own business, Self Energy, which grew as CEO and Founder to €25 million in sales within three years, expanding to four countries (Portugal, Spain, the UK, and Mozambique). The companies in Portugal and Mozambique were sold, and the company’s headquarters are now in London, operating as Self Energy Ltd.
Maintains activity as a Business Angel in various companies in Portugal and the UK in the renewable energy sector (e.g., Luxoenergy.com – a manufacturer of flexible solar panels and batteries, Keme Energy Lda – renewable energy communities, etc.). Also plays a significant role in the UK with Naked Energy Ltd, serving as Commercial Director, now focusing on the Iberian region.
Fernando Miguel Matias has been a Counselor of Portugal in the World at the Portuguese Diaspora Council since January 2025.
