Élder Marques is a lawyer and community leader in Ottawa, Canada, where he lives with his wife and three children. A former political advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he is now a partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious law firms. He specializes in areas including litigation, public law, and foreign investment.

Élder was educated at the University of Ottawa, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and the University of Toronto. Early in his legal career, he served as principal law clerk to the Chief Justice of Canada at the Supreme Court of Canada. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006 and began his legal practice at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, where he became a partner in 2013.

Between 2016 and 2020, Élder served the Government of Canada as Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to both the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa and on the Advisory Board for the Ottawa Region organized by the Embassy of Portugal.

His leadership has earned him numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Camões Commendation, the Sir James Woods Award, and the Excellence in Professional Achievement Award from the Federation of Portuguese-Canadian Business and Professionals.

Élder Marques has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since December 2024.
